Gokul Manoj
Gokul joined the Cleland lab as a PhD student in 2025. His research combines electrophysiology and computational modeling to study how the timing and coordination of neural activity shape sensory processing. He uses multi-electrode recordings from optogenetically stimulated olfactory bulb slices to investigate the relationship between spike timing and ongoing beta and gamma frequency oscillations. In parallel, he develops physicochemical models of the olfactory system to explore how circuit organization and learning shape odor processing. His broader interests include dynamical systems approaches to neuroscience and how neural circuit activity gives rise to perception. Outside the lab, he enjoys hikes and practicing Aikido.
